If you are interested in gut health, then there is a good chance that you are taking a probiotic 'for your gut bacteria'.
BUT... if you have Rosacea, then there is at least a 50% chance that you have too much gut bacteria!
Specifically, too much bacteria, too high up in your gut.
This condition is known as SIBO and it is one of the main causes of Rosacea.
SO, if you are one of the 50%+ of Rosaceans with SIBO, then a recent study suggests that taking a probiotic may actually be increasing your SIBO - which may NOT be good for your skin!
SPECIFICALLY, researchers found that taking a probiotic when you have SIBO makes SIBO symptoms like brain fog, bloating, and gas worse. Unfortunately, they were not measuring skin symptoms, but it seems very likely that these would have worsened too.
THE IMPORTANT THING TO KNOW is that to improve gut health, you first need to know what precisely is out of whack in your gut - it is not a one-size fits all approach.
If you have made this mistake, then don't worry because WE CAN ALSO LEARN FROM THIS.
For example, if you have been using a probiotic and your Rosacea is worse then maybe SIBO is your gut imbalance. But, if you have been using a probiotic and your skin has improved then your gut imbalance is probably something else.
THE TRUTH IS, IT'S COMPLICATED! But if we learn from our mistakes, then we can ultimately find out what is causing our Rosacea?!
